On Friday, March 7th SMS students begin Operation Preparation activities by visiting Somerset Community College.



6th Grade Girls Win KBA State Tournament
Southern Middle School Lady Warriors basketball team won the school’s first ever 6th grade state championship this past weekend at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington, KY. The Warriors took on the undefeated Eastside and won 49-20, in pool play action. In the first round of single elimination tournament play the Warriors defeated West Carter 47-11 and in the second round the Warriors eliminated Paris 45-5. In the final four game the Warriors overpowered the Titans of Mercer county 44-14. In the championship game Southern had to face off against a really solid Casey county team and captured the state championship crown with a 53-25 win, concluding the season with an overall record of 33-0. Receiving All-state all-tournament honors from Southern was Regi Cundiff and Alexa Smiddy.
Kennedy Harris KBA Tournament MVP
Kennedy Harris scored an impressive 28 points in the KBA championship game earning her tournament MVP honors.
Coach Engle inducted into the Kentucky Middle School Athletic Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Coach Dwight Engle for being inducted into the Kentucky Middle School Athletic Hall of Fame over the weekend.
SMS Students Meet Explore Benchmarks
Congratulations to the SMS students that met all four benchmarks on the Explore test. Way to go!!!
Southern Middle School 7th Grade Lady Warriors KBA State Final Four
Southern Middle School 7th grade Lady Warriors basketball team finished in the KBA State Final Four this past weekend in Lexington, KY. The Warriors defeated Elkhorn 48-31, in the first round of pool play. In tournament action the Warriors defeated Woodford 47-27 in the first round and Christian Academy of Louisville 40-32 in the second round to advance to Southern Middle School third 7th Grade State Final Four apperance in the last five years. In the Final Four game Southern lost to a really solid and talented West Carter team 44-32. The Lady Warriors finished the season with an overall record of 21 wins and 4 loss. Southern Middle Schools, Kennedy Harris was named to the Kentucky 7th grade Middle School All-State All Tournament team.

SMS Lady Warriors Win Queen of the Mountains Tournament
Southern Middle School 6th grade Lady Warriors basketball team won the BCI, "Queen of the Mountains Tournament" this past weekend at the Knott County Sportsplex. The Warriors defeated East Perry 47-21, in the first round of play and in the second round of play the Warriors defeated Pikeville 35-15. The Lady Warriors filled in a game for a team that had dropped out in the 7th grade tournament against Mullins and also won 43-35. In the championship game Southern had to face off aginst the undefeated Dorton team and came home with the win 59-23, improving thier overall record to a perfect 25-0.
